Kandinsky said that 'Art is a matter of internal necessity.' This is how Ma drew, not even to communicate with me.
We communicated thoroughly...telepathy, facial expressions, gestures, attitude.
Others were often amazed at how we understood each other.
She couldn't formulate words by voice or writing, but the intonation of her 'MA, Ma, Ma.' 's spoke volumes.
Because she knew I understood her, she had no frustration about that and even took control thereby.
She ruled the roost and scolded me if I didn't meet her standards. Like any good mother!
and dear Brian, how brilliant your account, how total your surrender to Mother who is the one lighting our way... it is Mother taking us into the New Earth, it is her love and her compassion... and all we need to do is be open and let ...her guide us ever so "softly but firmly". She is providing all these connections, she is bringing us together and showing us how to connect from our hearts instead of with our minds... it is becoming so clear to me... She is the Way, She is Love under Surrender... no matter the name by which we call her, She is the Divine Mother of Love and her's is the only way....

Wonderful photographs. I love the hand colored details. Thank you for sharing these pictures and drawings of Ma... until I can read the book...

Did she ever communicate with you other than through drawings after her stroke?
Or was her verbal communication gone completely?

MA! An Awakening.

Images emerged from the controlled tangle of lines...
                              figures, garments, shells, animals.
                     Anything you could imagine.
There are cryptic indications reminiscent of ancient Cuneiform
                     resembling contemporary Reiki drawings...

MA! An Awakening.

I had given her a pen to see if she could write me a message.
Instead she started to draw...

Pages and pages of abstract images followed...

She drew with ease and determination. Once an image was done,
she reached for another page and continued...

MA! An Awakening.

Ma produced over a hundred drawings after a stroke that left her unable to walk or talk. Her drawings inspired this book and punctuate her son's narrative about how they turned a difficult time into one of transformation and growth.
